Meet Kim
Meet Kim McAllister, MSc, BSc (Hons), Dip.Couns, MNCPS (Accred), CYPT, MBACP, GMBPsS.
My name is Kim McAllister, and I am a passionate, accredited psychotherapist, play therapist, and counsellor. I absolutely love what I do. While I may not be clinical, suited, and booted, I bring a wealth of education and experience to my work. Now in my 50s, I also bring lived experience of birth, death, marriage, divorce, cancer, chronic health conditions, menopause, anxiety, depression, autism, and ADHD. I am unapologetically my quirky, congruent self and continuously strive to stay up to date with the latest professional development.
I offer personally tailored talking therapy combined with mindfulness for all online clients, and play therapy for children under 12 in face-to-face sessions. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space to explore, express, and process thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Together, we also work on building practical skills and coping techniques—whether to get through a difficult time or to help you live your best life. My journey into this profession began when my son, at age 8, told me it wasn’t ‘cool’ for his mum to work at his primary school. That moment sparked my educational path: I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with Honours, followed by a Master of Science degree in Health Psychology.
However, I had an epiphany—while psychology fascinated me, the clinical, data-heavy approach felt cold and detached. I returned to college and spent three years earning my Level 3 and Level 4 Diplomas in Therapeutic Counselling, where I discovered my true calling. I went on to work with a nationwide school counselling charity and became a Play Therapist, supporting children as young as four. I’m proud to have been recognised with a Child Therapist of the Year Award for my work with children and young people (CYPs). Over time, my interest in psychotherapy expanded. Although I specialised in working with children and young people, I found I connected deeply with adults—especially those navigating similar life events to my own. So, if you’re looking for a down-to-earth, quirky, non-judgmental therapist… you may have just found her!
